Plot Summary

He plans to take their daughter Blake (Daddario) to college in Seattle, but is called off to assist with a dam collapse in Nevada. Emma decides to go with her wealthy boyfriend Daniel Riddick (Gruffudd), who has a private jet.
Meanwhile, seismologist Lawrence Hayes (Giamatti) and his colleague Dr. Kim Park (Will Yun Lee) discover that the San Andreas Fault is about to rupture, causing a series of major earthquakes along the west coast of the United States. They warn the public through the media, but it is too late for some people. The first quake hits Los Angeles, destroying many buildings and landmarks. Ray manages to save Emma from a collapsing skyscraper, and they decide to find Blake in San Francisco.
Blake meets Ben (Hugo Johnstone-Burt), a British engineer who is applying for a job at Daniel's company, and his younger brother Ollie (Art Parkinson). Daniel leaves Blake in his penthouse to attend a meeting, but the second quake hits San Francisco, causing the building to collapse. Blake calls Ray and Emma and tells them her location before she is trapped in a car in the basement garage. Ben and Ollie manage to free Blake from the car, and they team up to find a way out of the rubble. They eventually reach Daniel's office building, where they find a working phone and contact Ray and Emma.
Ray and Emma parachute out of the plane before it crashes into AT&T Park. They steal a boat and head to the Coit Tower, where they plan to meet Blake. However, the final quake triggers a massive tsunami that engulfs the city. Ray and Emma manage to avoid the debris and reach the tower, where they find Blake, Ben, and Ollie on the roof. They rescue them from the floodwater using a helicopter that Ray had earlier hidden under the bridge.
They fly to a relief camp at Marin County, where they reunite with other survivors. Ray and Emma reconcile their relationship, while Blake introduces Ben as her boyfriend. They look at the destroyed cityscape of San Francisco, which is partially submerged by the sea. Ray says that they will rebuild their lives together as a family.
