Explore Our BrandPLAYER DEVELOPMENT
Our six-pillar development model supports the whole player, on and off the field. Training, feedback and individual development priorities connect these areas.
Develop core rugby skills and execute them consistently.
Read the game, understand your role and make effective decisions.
Build strength, speed, conditioning and athletic ability.
Develop fueling, hydration and eating habits that support training and recovery.
Build confidence, resilience and composure under pressure.
Develop character, responsibility, teamwork and positive habits beyond rugby.
California Grizzlies operates within the USA Rugby Pathways STARS framework: Superpower, Tactical, Athleticism, Resilience and Skills. STARS is part of our six-pillar development model. It gives coaches and players a shared framework for identifying strengths, assessing rugby performance and setting development priorities.
The six pillars provide the wider development structure, including nutrition, leadership and habits beyond rugby. STARS helps focus assessment and feedback within that structure. The five STARS areas do not replace the six pillars.
Identify and develop the qualities that make your contribution distinctive.
Recognize situations and make effective decisions.
Develop the movement and physical qualities needed for your role.
Respond to setbacks, adapt and keep learning.
Execute core and position-specific rugby skills under pressure.
Players use feedback to identify priorities, develop their game and review progress. Participation does not guarantee representative or national selection.
